The Agronomy section main goal is to accelerate the economic status of sugarcane farmers by adoption of appropriate, innovative, advanced and cost-effective technologies in sugarcane cultivation. (Agronomic packages).
The section works with following general objectives
Collection of latest technical information on sugarcane cultivation at global, national and state level.
Increase in the average yield of sugarcane and sugar of Maharashtra State by applying acquired advanced technologies of sugarcane agronomy at farmers field.
Development of packages of practices for sugar beet cultivation in Tropical India.
Establishing sugar beet cultivation for commercial processing plant.
Increase the net income per unit area by exploiting the limiting resources of crop production i.e. water and land by giving cost-effective technologies of sugarcane cultivation, inter cropping, crop rotation and sequential cropping.
Changing the sugarcane seeds of all cultivars after every 3 to 4 years by distributing breeder’s seeds to sugar factories, thereby increasing yield of sugarcane.
Inter-disciplinary approach within the institute and national as well as international organizations while planning of research projects, implementation of advanced sugarcane cultivation technologies and seed programme.
Development and maintaining ideal research and development farms of the institute.
Preparation of data bank on different aspects of sugarcane agronomy.
Making use of meteorological science for sugarcane cultivation.
Helping the scientists from different sections of agrilture And other departments of the institute in conducting different experiments and demonstrating new techniques on respective aspects.
