Water has become the most scarce and expensive factor in sugarcane farming system. It is, therefore, become imperative to judiciously use the available water at the appropriate time so that maximum sugarcane yields can be obtained. With these objectives, research and development programmes have been undertaken by the Irrigation and Water Management (IWM) section. Since 1986, the IWM Section is engaged in research and development, extension and training activities related to sugarcane irrigation water management.
