Sugar Technology Laboratory

VSI Sugar Technology Department has a state-of-the-art equipped Sugar Laboratory for analysis of sugar, molasses and other intermediate products from sugar manufacturing process and boiler water. [See analysis and service charges]

The sugar laboratory of the Sugar Technology Department has achieved accredited status as per ISO/IEC/17025 from “National Accreditation Board for Testing and calibration Laboratories (NABL), New Delhi with effect from June 2003.

The Accreditation body has specified certain criteria for each of the fields for which accreditation can be given by it. Some of the fields are; Chemical, Mechanical, Biological etc. The Laboratory wishing to demonstrate its competence in these fields has to cover the criteria of these fields in the system documents.

ACCREDITATION IS A PROCESS BY WHICH THE CAPABILITY OF THE LAB IS EXAMINED, VERIFIED AND FOUND TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFIC CRITERIA OF AN ACCREDITATION BODY FOR SPECIFIC PARAMETERS LISTED AS SCOPE.

Salient Features of Sugar Laboratory
The sugar laboratory is well equipped with Sophisticated Instruments.
Accreditation status of the laboratory has international acceptance to test reports of the laboratory. This ensures to the sugar factories in Maharashtra as well as India, the Assurance of Sugar Quality for export as well as domestic market.
The laboratory instrument calibration and maintenance of record is mandatory as per NABL procedures and accordingly the following actions are taken –
  • Calibration of the instruments and glassware as per the calibration schedule is carried out regularly.
  • Uncertainty estimation of different test parameters is carried out regularly.
  • Update of test procedures.
  • Periodical review of all the manuals.
  • Conducts regular audit for proper maintenance of record of analysis report.
  • Seventeen tests of different constituents of sugar and molasses are included as sugar quality test parameters.
The sugar laboratory every year tests and analyses about 500 sugar and molasses samples for various parameters.
