Sugar Engineering - Services

i) Preparation of Detailed Project Reports: The department prepares various proposals, which includes


  • Green-field sugar projects

  • Modernization projects

  • Expansion of existing sugar mills with cogeneration

  • Balancing of plant and machinery for different capacities

  • Valuation of sugar machinery

  • Rehabilitation of sugar mills

  • Appraisal reports

  • Validation reports

  • Diagnostic reports



    • ii) On the industrial front, the department has highly qualified expertise for extending services in

  • Evaluation of machinery performance, energy conservation and effective use of steam

  • Solving technical problems/troubleshooting during season & off-season operations

  • Preparation of tender technical specifications for plant and machinery for modernization, expansion & cogeneration

  • Checking and scrutiny of design/ drawings of machinery for modernization, expansion, and cogeneration

  • Inspection of plant and machinery for modernization, expansion and cogeneration projects

  • Evaluation & enhancement of plant & machinery performance for better capacity utilization for improving efficiency and effectiveness


    • iii) Major detailed projects reports and consultancy projects completed from 2001 to 2018

    The department successfully completed 97 modernization projects, besides 44 expansion projects and 92 reports viz. audit, revaluation, rehabilitation of sugar mills. In addition, we have completed 40-consultancy work outside the state, 37 overseas visits and 8215 visits for extension and project consultancy.


    iv) Bagasse based cogeneration

    In Maharashtra, 120 sugar mills have been commissioned their cogeneration projects having installed capacity 2168 MW and 8 projects are in pipeline having 137.50 MW installed capacity.
    Status of cogeneration projects undertaken by VSI
    Under the guidance of the sugar engineering department, 45 cogeneration projects having 820.65 MW installed and 491.86MW exportable power capacity, have been successfully commissioned and 25 detailed project reports prepared, 8 out of 25 projects are in pipeline having 137.50 MW installed capacity.
